Cards for Caring

Cards for Caring

Cards for Caring is our New Holiday Fundraiser!

Holiday e-cards are a great way to say you care, and they can also be a creative alternative to buying gifts. Especially for those hard-to-buy-for people. Instead of a gift, make a donation in honor of a loved one, teacher, friend, neighbor, or co-worker.

Sending a Holiday e-card with animation is fast and easy, and will add a little extra life into your holiday message.

1. Choose a card. 2. Write a message. 3. Make a donation and send!

There is no more worry if your card will arrive on time. With a few clicks of your mouse, your card is on its way!

Your e-card will be sent to your recipient telling them a donation was made in their honor to the Abused Adult Resource Center to help survivors and their children the whole year long.

“May the peace and hope this gift brings to survivors and children be felt in your home throughout the year.”

Halloween Store Opens Aug. 16 at Seeds of Hope

Halloween Store Opens Aug. 16 at Seeds of Hope

If you want to welcome trick-or- treaters and also support a good community cause, visit the Halloween store that will be opening Aug. 16 in the upper level of the Seeds of Hope Thrift and Gift Store at 520 E. Main.

Seeds of Hope is owned and operated by the Abused Adult Resource Center (AARC).

“We have a wide variety of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and fall decorations and props not found in other stores,” said Lisa Ternes, store manager. The store features hundreds of costumes ranging from infants to adults, and it has accessories including wigs, makeup, hats, masks, pumpkins and much more. “Your children will love the large variety of costumes and parents will love the price! Decorate your home or office for less and support the mission of the AARC,” she said.

The store’s normal hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To contact the Seeds of Hope, call 222-8895.

Sales proceeds are used by the AARC in its mission to serve victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children in a seven-county area in south-central North Dakota.

Giving Hearts Day

Giving Hearts Day

Help us shelter and support abuse survivors!

You can help provide that first night of shelter and supportive services for these families served by the Abused Adult Resource Center. And a good time to do that is on Giving Hearts Day next week Thursday, Feb. 11.

For only $72, you can provide one night of shelter for a family escaping violence and abuse. Giving more means we can provide even more resources, but giving at least $10 will help.

For the first time, a sweepstakes offered by sponsors allows donors to possibly win great prizes!

If you don’t want to wait until Feb. 11, you can schedule a payment anytime now through Feb. 9. Simply go to  www.givingheartsday.org, make sure that the “Pay on Giving Hearts Day, February 11th, 2021” box is checked when you review your cart before completing your transaction. Scheduled gifts will then be processed on Giving Hearts Day.

Of course, you can wait until Feb. 11 and go to the website at  www.givingheartsday.org, then select “donate” and pick the Abused Adult Resource Center for your gift on that day.

Year-End Holiday Appeal

Year-End Holiday Appeal

Imagine, for a moment, a survivor with their children on the brink of making the hardest decision of their life, fleeing their home to escape violence and abuse.  Add to this a pandemic, nowhere to go and the fate of being homeless.  Each of these are stressful events on their own.  Now imagine all occurring at the same time for abuse survivors over the holidays.

COVID-19 has caused economic devastation, emotional trauma, and disconnect from extended family, and community support systems. These conditions are contributing to violence in families where it didn’t exist before and making it worse in homes where violence has been a problem. Due to the increase in family hardships, we are seeing a disturbing level of abuse and family violence in our community.

One woman in our shelter wrote: “The staff at AARC are my angels.  They have helped me so much.  They helped me realize I am not alone and that I do have a voice that needs to be heard.”

Today marks the first day of our year-end holiday appeal.  Your HELP is needed more than ever. These survivors and their children need hope, they need help, and they need YOU!

In 2019 it cost $72 a day to provide shelter, food and support for one survivor and their children. The average stay in our emergency shelter was 33 days and cost $2,376. Our transitional shelter average stay is 9 months to 1 year and costs up to $24,192.

Rep. Armstrong Donates Salary to AARC During Shutdown

U.S. Rep. Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota has donated his salary from during the recent federal government shutdown to the Abused Adult Resource Center (AARC).

He presented a check for $7,500 to AARC.

“We are extremely grateful for his donation to our mission,” said Michelle Erickson, Interim Executive Director of the AARC. “It again shows the family’s longtime support and ties to AARC. We will be using his gift for our shelters that serve as a temporary home for abuse survivors and their children.”

Diane Zainhofsky, former AARC Executive Director, said that Rep. Armstrong’s late grandmother, Myrt Armstrong, had been a longtime supporter and volunteer for the AARC and its Seeds of Hope Thrift and Gift Store. Myrt was instrumental in successfully getting the Christmas store started in the Seeds of Hope.

AARC is a nonprofit serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and families in a seven-county area in south-central North Dakota.
